2009 Farmer’s Markets
Saturday, March 28th, 2009There’s a time to plant… planting season is around the corner. Here in the Okanogan Highlands, we don’t normally start planting a garden until mid to late May. This is my daughter planting onions years ago…
Starting in April and May the season for Farmer’s Markets begin. This is a great time to support the local farmer. I am still enjoying the frozen peppers, onions, green beans, peaches, and tomatoes that I put up last summer. By this summer, though, I’ll have used up my supply.
If you have never processed canned or frozen food, think about trying it this summer. There are many resources to teach you how to can/freeze food. Check out WSU Extension Agency for proper ways for process food.
FOOD FOR THE FREEZER Locally Grown. What better way to support the farmer than by buying in bulk. Ask for a BOX price. Let them know you are using the vegetables or fruit for canning, and most produce vendors will have something for that purpose.
In late May I will inform you where, when and what Farmer’s Markets I will be attending. You may buy directly from me ANYTIME since I have USDA beef here at my home.
Have a Great Spring,
Tina
